BEACDS 2009 ARTISTS:
Annie Pui Ling Lok
Currently lecturing on the Dance and Professional Practice and Performing Arts BA at the University of Bedfordshire and have been in rehearsal and performance with Siobhan Davies Dance in ROTOR.
Annie’s independent work is currently centered around work with various body work practitioners (Craniosacral Therapy and Cranial Osteopathy) to inform an on-going exploration and play with improvisation away from performance and choreographic contexts.
Chisato Minamimura
Chisato’s current dance work, ‘NEW BEATS’ was showed at GDA, DaDaFest International 2010, Hawth theatre and at Spring Dance 2011, Utrecht in April. Also she was invited to Europe in Motion 2011 in Utretcht. She choreographed for theatre ‘Laundry Boy’ produced by Face Front in 2011. And the article about her dance education, ‘WHAT’S SPECIAL’ published by RESEO, European Network for Opera and Dance Education.
Khamlane Halsackda
Since premiering ‘A single act’ in London Khamlane has toured the solo to Sweden (Scene konst festivalen) and India (Attakkalari biennial). He has now been researching and developing the sequel to this work and was given a residency by Pavilion Dance (of Dance South West) and Danstationen (of Malmo, Sweden). This was fully funded by Arts Council England. In August Kham was 1 of 3 UK choreographers to have a commission in Taiwan as part of Arts Cross, a 3 year scheme and partnership between the UK, Taiwan, China and Singapore.
Quang Kien Van
Since 2010 Quang has worked extensively with Fleur Darkin Company and has recently been appointed Rehearsal Director/ Assistant Choreographer to the group. He has also been a regular Guest Artist to Salon K, a performance art collective based in Berlin: http://intransit.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/23/a-secret-berlin-cabaret-for-the-21st-century/. Kriya a new solo created and performed by Quang has been performed as part of Salon K: www.vimeo.com/qkv. Furthermore, Quang has been invited to choreograph for the opening ceremony of a new tropical greenhouse “L’Oasi dell Farfalle” (Butterfly’s oasis) in Milan Italy.
STEPPING EAST 2010 ARTISTS:
JiaYu Corti
JaiYu Corti has completed a commission from Roehampton University for the creation of a dance piece and presented it in March and will again on 17th May. Her interdisciplinary work which combines computer technology, projection and improvisation will be presented on 3rd and 4th June at LCDS as part of her current MA choreography projects. This work is a collaboration between improvisation practitioners Kathy Crick and Robert Anderson, computer software programme developer Henry Suryo and JaiYu.
Julia Cheng
Julia has just been accepted for Dance4 Springboard 2011 at Corby Cube. Previously, after finished performing with IHOW UK Waacking Company at Richmix ,Julia was selected as a Supported Artist for Luton Hat Factory 2011-2012. She is working on her new piece and performing a excerpt showcase of it on 6th and 7th May at Roehampton University. In June, the piece will be performed at KCC, Kensington and Chelsea College as they have offered in-kind support in studio space. This new work is aimed to be toured in venues working closely with the Hat Factory by early 2012. She is still teaching freelance and as an artist for East London Dance.
Lucia Tong
Lucia has just been accepted for Dance4 Springboard 2011 at Corby Cube. Previously she was collaborating with experimental musician Leafcutter John for the Soundwaves Festival, Brighton and composer Philip Venables for performances at the Kings Place Festival Project, London. Since Oct 2010, Lucia has toured with Sankalpam and Troika Ranch in the UK and USA and is creating an outdoor performance with the Indian Foundation of Performing Arts.
YuYu Rau
Yu Yu is currently working with Step Out Arts as a choreographer for Jumping Dragon 2011, and has recently performed the research and development work at Greenwich Cultural Festival in July. Previously Yu Yu finished the Sadler’s Wells dance production The Most Incredible Thing with Javier De Frutos in March 2011. Re-encounter was invited to perform at Hawth Theatre and later at the Plymouth Festival on the 8th May.
