Red INK – By Wayward Thread (Ready to Tour)

Press Release for Red INK

Mixing break and contemporary dance, Red INK is about the struggle between the desires of state and citizen, embodied in the movement and aesthetic of Chinese calligraphy. Drawing inspiration from the imagery of cinematographer Zhang Yimou (‘Hero’, ‘House of Flying Daggers’) and the social commentary of contemporary artist and activist Ai Weiwei, we follow a writer who walks a fine line between art and dissidence.

When “maintaining cultural values” is the difference between freedom, imprisonment, exile or worse, a writer’s life hangs on his words. Bodies fly and ink runs in this stunning dance premiere.
