ArtsCross project background and introduction: Artscross builds on an innovative and successful collaboration from 2009 between ResCen Research Centre at Middlesex University, UK and the Beijing Dance Academy, (BDA) China. The project, Danscross: dancing in a shaking world involved eight choreographers, four from China and four international, making short works in response to a specific brief, working with Chinese dancers while Chinese and international academics observed the creative processes. It included webpostings documenting the process of each choreographer and the project culminated in a performance and a conference which attracted wide attention in the Chinese media and in the arts and academic communities internationally.

In August 2011, the first Artscross project extended the collaboration between the BDA and ResCen to include Queen Mary, University of London, and Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). The result was ArtsCross Taipei 2011: Uncertain….waiting… which took place at TNUA. The next phase of the collaboration will take place in October-November 2012 at the Beijing Dance Academy. The ArtsCross International Research Network is supported by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Patrons Dr. and Mrs. Richard & Rosalind Lee.
